“Docking in the Cove” captures the carefree energy of a summer afternoon at the lake. Viewed from above, the scene unfolds with children playing along the shore, a boat resting at the dock, and others making their way into the cove. I was drawn to the way these small moments come together to tell a larger story of a day spent outside—boats coming and going, kids playing, and everyone lingering a little longer on the water.
The elevated viewpoint allows the viewer to take in the whole scene at once, almost as if looking down on a favorite memory. I wanted the painting to feel lively and nostalgic, evoking the warmth, movement, and simple joy of summer days at the lake.
For me, the lake is a place of connection and escape, where ordinary afternoons become the memories we carry with us. This painting is an invitation to step into one of those afternoons and stay awhile.
